You might have learned about the high-protein Atkins diet, low-carbohydrate. The ketogenic diet maintains low carbohydrate, but the ketogenic diet increases the amount of fat instead of increasing the amount of protein in your diet. A standard ketogenic diet has 75% fat, 20% protein, and 5% carbohydrate for food. A high-fat diet can still mean healthy eating. The ketogenic menu items are usually aquatic, poultry, dairy, fish, fruit, and nuts. Keto recipes are widely available because of the growing popularity of the keto diet.

How Does the Keto Diet Work?

It may sound counterintuitive that adding more fat to your diet may result in weight loss. Typically, for use as energy, the diet is high in carbohydrates that are broken down into glucose or blood sugar. When glucose reaches your bloodstream, insulin is released into your body to store excess glucose when fat. The more carbohydrates, the more glucose they produce. The more insulin, the more glucose, and the more insulin.

The keto diet takes advantage of the fact that there is no insulin spike when your meals are high in fat and low in carbohydrates, and you don’t add it to your fat reserves. Instead, dietary fat and stored fat are broken down into ketones (“keto” is short for ketone producing “ketogenic”).

Unlike glucose, ketones can be used for energy, without increasing blood sugar or putting on excess fat, keeping the body going. The benefits of a keto diet can be enormous.

Weight Loss

The keto diet is, generally, an effective way to burn fat and lose weight. Eating fewer carbs suppresses appetite, and studies have shown that participants in the keto diet eat fewer overall calories because of that. Burning fat for energy can result in quick weight loss.

Reduced Blood Sugar and Insulin

Because intake of carbohydrates is in the limit, blood sugar and insulin level are less .This is especially important for people with type 2 diabetes, which causes a bloodstream build-up of glucose. Keto diet can be used to reduce or eliminate the need to inject diabetic insulin.

Reduced Triglycerides

Fat molecules of the subunit called triglycerides usually accumulate in your bloodstream. High triglyceride levels are a significant risk factor for heart disease development. Since fat is consume for energy in the ketogenic diet, the amount of triglyceride molecules in the bloodstream reduces, thereby raising the risk of heart disease.

Improved Cholesterol

A further risk factor for heart disease is “poor” (LDL) cholesterol. Too much bad cholesterol builds up in your arteries in your bloodstream, shrinking them and causing atherosclerosis, a type of heart disease. The ketogenic diet lowers bad cholesterol levels while improving the body’s balance of “healthy” cholesterol (HDL).

The Bottom Line

Keto diet provides numerous health benefits. Not only can this diet help you to lose weight quickly but it can also improve your overall health and help prevent disease.
